Acid Overload

Many foods naturally contain acids like vitamin C, which, if moderately consumed, are good for you. On the flip side, when consumed in excess, vitamin C-rich foods can cause enamel erosion to occur.
Our modern lifestyle has created a hidden epidemic of enamel erosion. For example, food manufacturers add preservatives like benzoic acid to prolong shelf life. When combined with high sugar content, teeth receive a double-dose acid attack.
To keep your smile strong, embrace moderation and avoid or greatly reduce preserved foods, candy, soda, and drinks high in sugar. Remember to rinse your mouth with water after acid exposure, dilute acidic juices, and hydrate often with water.
At your regular checkups, we’ll assess your enamel and if it needs extra support. If so, we’ll share some options to help you restore and preserve your beautiful smile!
